Bloomington, IN — Two people were hospitalized after a reported hazing incident at Indiana University’s Bloomington campus, authorities said. The incident allegedly took place during the late evening of October 15 into the early morning of October 16 at the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house, located at 1200 North Eagleson Avenue.
University Issues Cease and Desist
Indiana University Police Department (IUPD) confirmed that Phi Kappa Psi has been issued a cease and desist directive by the university.
Under university policy, organizations placed on cease and desist are prohibited from hosting or participating in social events, recruitment activities, membership education, brotherhood/sisterhood gatherings, and philanthropy/service events, as per Fox59.
Ongoing Criminal Investigation
IUPD is continuing its criminal investigation into the incident. Police have not yet identified or named individual suspects.

Campus Safety Guidance
In the wake of the incident, Indiana University released safety tips to help students prevent and respond to hazing:
- Recognize the signs: Watch for secrecy, mental or physical exhaustion, unexplained injuries, or pressure to do something uncomfortable.
- Use strength in numbers: Refuse to participate and say no to harmful activities.
- Report hazing: IU provides safe and anonymous ways to report incidents. For life-threatening situations, call 911 immediately.
- Know Indiana’s Lifeline law: This law protects individuals from arrest or prosecution for certain alcohol offenses when seeking medical help.
- Encourage others to leave: If safe, help peers exit dangerous situations.
- Don’t be a bystander: Speak up or report anything concerning.
- Maintain connections: Stay connected to friends outside the organization and seek support from trusted university staff or friends.
The university emphasized that hazing is harmful, often illegal, and that students have the right to refuse participation in any unsafe activities.
