Houston, TX — After enjoying cooler and more comfortable weather midweek, Houston residents should brace for a stormy weekend as a strong cold front pushes through Southeast Texas, bringing the potential for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and localized flooding.
Calm Before the Storm
Wednesday and Thursday will offer a pleasant break from the recent heat, with highs in the 70s and low 80s, lower humidity, and a mix of clouds and sunshine. However, this calm weather won’t last long.
Powerful Cold Front to Arrive Saturday
Forecasters say a new front will move across Texas on Saturday, bringing widespread rain and storms to most of Southeast Texas. The key difference this time: the system driving this front will pass much closer to Houston than Tuesday’s front, increasing the potential for intense downpours and thunderstorms.
Because the region has been unusually dry for over a month, forecasters warn that the heavy rainfall could overwhelm streets and drainage systems. The area is currently under a Level 2 out of 4 risk for flash flooding on Saturday.
Fire Danger Remains Elevated
Despite the return of rain chances, burn bans remain in effect across much of the area. Forecasters are urging residents to stay cautious, as dry vegetation and gusty winds can still fuel fires quickly.
