Wyandotte, Michigan – A Michigan woman recently hit the jackpot—well, nearly—after using artificial intelligence to pick her lottery numbers. Tammy Carvey, 45, of Wyandotte, relied on ChatGPT to generate a set of numbers for her Powerball ticket, which earned her a $100,000 prize in September.
Turning to AI for Lucky Numbers
Carvey explained to Michigan Lottery officials that she usually only plays Powerball when the jackpot reaches high amounts.
In early September, with the jackpot over $1 billion, she decided it was time to try her luck. She asked ChatGPT for a set of Powerball numbers and used those numbers to purchase her ticket online.
“I only play Powerball when the jackpot gets up there, and the jackpot was over $1 billion, so I bought a ticket. I asked ChatGPT for a set of Powerball numbers, and those are the numbers I played,” Carvey said.
Big Win, Bigger Surprise
Carvey’s ticket matched four white balls and the Powerball in the Sept. 6 drawing, initially earning her a $50,000 prize. However, because she had selected the Power Play option, her winnings were doubled to $100,000.
“When I checked the winning numbers, I saw I matched four white balls and the Powerball and knew I had to have won something. Google told me it was a $50,000 prize, so that’s what I thought I’d won. It wasn’t until I logged into my Michigan Lottery account that I realized I added the Power Play to my ticket and actually won $100,000! My husband and I were in total disbelief,” Carvey shared.
