Fort Smith, AR – A Fort Smith man is facing felony firearm and fleeing charges after allegedly leading a high-speed pursuit through Arkansas and Oklahoma, according to authorities.

Suspect and Arrest

The suspect, Eric Young, 26, was arrested and is being held at the Sebastian County Detention Center without bond pending an initial court appearance. Young faces felony charges for fleeing police and possessing a firearm after a prior felony conviction in Arkansas. Additional charges in Oklahoma are possible.

Details of the Pursuit

Dash cam footage from the Oklahoma District 27 Drug Task Force shows agents attempting to stop the driver of a Dodge Charger on Thursday afternoon during a drug enforcement operation near Roland, Oklahoma on Highway 64.

As per the reports, the driver allegedly fled from law enforcement, with a passenger alerting authorities that Young was armed with a gun.

During the pursuit, speeds reportedly reached 100 mph on the Garrison Avenue Bridge, and the driver narrowly avoided collisions while speeding through downtown Fort Smith. On Grand Avenue, near Darby Middle School, the driver reportedly pushed an SUV out of the way.

In total, four vehicles were struck during the chase. Fort Smith police were not directly involved, and thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.
