La Riviera, CA – A tragic crash in La Riviera, California, left one man dead and two others seriously injured on Thursday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Crash Details

CHP officers responded to the incident around 2:08 p.m. near the intersection of Watt Avenue and La Riviera Drive.

Officials said a Hyundai Tucson traveling eastbound on La Riviera Drive left the roadway at a high rate of speed, striking a tree. The collision caused the vehicle to overturn into a nearby parking lot, where it also hit a metal fence.

Emergency Response

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department reported that first responders had to extricate some passengers from the vehicle.

The driver died at the scene, while a woman and a male passenger were taken to a local hospital with major injuries. Authorities have not yet identified the deceased driver.

Officials also noted that the parking lot sustained damage from the crash, as per KCRA

Cause Under Investigation

It remains unclear if DUI or a medical emergency contributed to the crash. CHP detectives continue to investigate the incident.
