Boston, MA – Residents and visitors should prepare for a nor’easter expected to impact the area during the holiday weekend, bringing strong wind gusts, heavy rain, and coastal flooding.
Weekend Weather Overview
The weekend begins with Saturday offering mostly sunny skies across New England, making it the ideal day for outdoor activities like hiking, apple picking, and securing boats at lake homes. High cirrus clouds may arrive later in the day, but conditions will remain largely dry.
On Sunday, increasing cloudiness will mark the arrival of the coastal storm. Rain and winds will first impact the Mid-Atlantic and North Carolina coastline and gradually move into southern New England. Winds are expected to gust 25-40 mph by sunset in southeastern Massachusetts. Central and northern New England may remain largely dry for most of the day.
By Monday, residents should prepare for the wettest and windiest day. Rain will extend across southern and into northern New England, with gusts reaching 25-45 mph in southern areas. Coastal regions, especially Cape Cod and the Islands, may experience minor flooding due to onshore winds.
Coastal Flooding and Safety
With 2-3 days of sustained onshore winds, minor coastal flooding is possible. Residents along the shore should monitor high tide times—Sunday around 4 p.m. and Monday around 5 p.m.—when splashover or minor inundation may occur. Despite the challenges, the storm is expected to bring beneficial rainfall to the region, according to CBS.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather alerts, secure outdoor property, and avoid coastal areas during peak high tides.
