CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – A Chattanooga man, Tysean Preston, was arrested after a police chase that ended in a crash and the seizure of drugs and a firearm, according to Chattanooga police. The pursuit began as officers searched for a different wanted suspect.
Police Chase and Crash Details
The chase unfolded around 5 p.m. Tuesday near Rodgers Road, when police responded to a home believed to house a wanted suspect. Officers spotted Preston in a Ford Escape, mistakenly identifying him as the suspect.
The driver led police on a chase, cutting through a CVS parking lot onto Brainerd Road, where he struck a Subaru Forester. The vehicle’s driver was taken to the hospital for arm and head injuries, according to the reports.
The chase continued to Belvoir Avenue, where the Escape pulled into a Speedway gas station, and a female passenger jumped out. Preston then struck a mailbox while attempting to leave, stalling the vehicle.
Discovery of Drugs and Firearm
After the chase, police realized Preston was not the original suspect. Officers found 20 grams of crack cocaine, a half-ounce of marijuana, and a Glock magazine in his pockets. A Glock 23 was located in the front passenger seat, and 2 ecstasy pills were later discovered on his person.

Preston faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including:

- Controlled substances possession

- Reckless endangerment
