Crash Details

The crash occurred around 11 p.m. Thursday, near Carpenter Fletcher Road and North Carolina Highway 55, when two vehicles were street racing. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicles, but Gomez’s Ford pickup truck turned off its headlights and sped away.

Moments later, the truck was involved in a collision with a Dodge Charger at NC Highway 55 and Riddle Road, killing Jamal Parker, the driver of the Charger. A passenger in Parker’s vehicle was hospitalized with injuries.

Troopers confirmed Gomez ran the traffic light before colliding with Parker’s vehicle.

Parker’s family described him as a loving father and generous individual. His aunt, Elizabeth Reeves, told WRAL News:

“He just wanted everybody to be happy around him. He had a big heart and would give his last. His main priority was his children, that’s all that mattered to him.”
