COLUMBUS, Ga. – A high-speed police chase involving a C7 Corvette ended in a fiery crash and multiple criminal charges for Clifford George Castillo, according to the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office.
The Chase Incident
The chase began when Castillo allegedly fled from officers at triple-digit speeds in South Columbus. Police initially called off pursuit due to the extreme speed, but Castillo reportedly turned off his lights and continued driving recklessly.
The driver lost control at a roundabout on South Lumpkin Road, leaving the roadway and crashing into a surrounding forest. The Corvette caught fire, though Castillo and his passenger escaped without injury. Both attempted to flee on foot but were arrested by authorities shortly afterward.
Charges Facing Castillo
Castillo is now facing 20 charges, including:
- Willful obstruction of law enforcement
- Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer
- Speeding and reckless driving
- Operating without required lights
- Driving too fast for conditions
- Aggressive driving
- Failure to maintain lane
He is being held without bond, and his case has been turned over to the Superior Court.
