SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. – A suspected DUI driver is in custody after leading Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers on a high-speed chase Tuesday night that ended in a multi-vehicle crash on the U.S. 2 trestle.
Chase and Crash Details
The incident began around 7:50 p.m. when reports came in of a speeding vehicle on Interstate 5 in Everett. A WSP trooper located the suspect vehicle and attempted to pull it over, but the driver fled eastbound onto U.S. 2.
The pursuit continued onto the Ebey Slough trestle, where the suspect’s vehicle crashed mid-span into two other cars. Following the collision, the driver fled on foot, jumping over a jersey barrier and falling to the roadway below on Homeacres Road.
Victims and Arrest
The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment and is now in custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. Additional charges may be filed.
Three other people — one adult and two juveniles — were transported to a hospital for observation, according to WSP.
Traffic Impact
All eastbound traffic on U.S. 2 is currently being diverted onto Homeacres Road as per KOMO News. Authorities have not yet announced when the roadway will reopen.
