Car Crash Outside Montclair School Involves Kidnapping and Road Dispute; One Dead and One in the Wind

MONTCLAIR, Calif. – A violent incident ended in tragedy on Tuesday morning, when a dispute between two parties led to a fatal crash outside Buena Vista Arts-Integrated Magnet School and the kidnapping of a woman, authorities said.

Crash and Kidnapping Details

The events began late Monday night at a restaurant on the north end of Montclair, where an argument between the suspect and a group of three victims – two men and a woman – escalated, according to the Montclair Police Department.

The suspect reportedly chased the victims’ car and at one point rammed the rear of the vehicle, causing it to spin out and crash into a tree near the school on San Bernardino Street.

The female passenger was kidnapped by the suspect, while the male passenger ran from the scene. The driver of the crashed vehicle was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at a hospital. His identity has not been released.

The abducted woman was taken to Ontario, where she managed to escape and call 911. She was subsequently treated at a hospital. Police could not immediately confirm reports that the victims were shot at during the chase.

“It sounded like an explosion. The car was on the gate and a gentleman had fallen out of the passenger side. I just seen them trying to resuscitate him. He wasn’t breathing, and they just kept on saying ‘He’s not breathing.’ Then they put him in the ambulance,” a witness, Katina Edwards, described the scene to ABC7.

Suspect Information and Investigation

The suspect remained at large as of Tuesday afternoon, and no description was immediately available. Authorities initially indicated that two suspects might have been involved.

Police stated that all parties involved were associated with each other, suggesting that the incident was not random. The circumstances leading to the original dispute remain under investigation.

Safety Tips for Drivers and Pedestrians

Authorities remind residents to remain cautious in situations involving road disputes or vehicle pursuits:

  • Avoid Confrontations: Do not engage with aggressive drivers; prioritize safety over property or pride.
  • Call 911: Report dangerous driving or threats immediately.
  • Stay Alert: Be cautious near schools and public areas, especially when traffic incidents occur.
  • Seek Shelter: If being followed or threatened, find a safe, public location to wait for authorities.
