ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Police in Rocky Mount arrested a father and son last week after uncovering a drug operation run out of an auto repair shop, authorities said.

Raid and Investigation Details

The six-month investigation focused on employees at Alpha Automotive, located at 625 S. Washington St. Police executed a raid on Friday, arresting three workers and seizing significant quantities of narcotics and firearms.

Authorities obtained a search warrant for the business based on evidence collected during the investigation.

Seized Items

During the raid, police recovered:

  • 32.8 pounds of marijuana
  • 51.25 grams of cocaine
  • 10.2 grams of psilocybin (hallucinogenic mushrooms)
  • Four rifles, including one stolen
  • Two handguns

Arrested Individuals and Charges

Alex Burgess, 42, owner of the shop, was arrested and charged with:

  • Trafficking marijuana (F)
  • Trafficking cocaine (F)
  • Maintaining a dwelling/shop for selling controlled substances (F)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia (M)

His son, Nyrek Burgess, 20, faces the same charges as his father, plus additional charges:

  • Possession with intent to sell/deliver schedule I controlled substance (F)
  • Sell/deliver marijuana – 2 counts (F)
  • Conspire to sell/deliver marijuana – 3 counts (F)
  • Possession of a stolen firearm (F)

Yasin Hall, 19, was also arrested and charged with:

  • Possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana (F)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia (M)

Bail was set at $50,000 secured bond for Alex Burgess, $78,000 secured bond for Nyrek Burgess, and $1,500 secured bond for Yasin Hall, as per CBS17 News.

Police said the investigation “demonstrates the department’s continued efforts to disrupt and dismantle criminal networks operating within the city.” Authorities continue to monitor the area and encourage residents to report suspicious activity.
