Ventura County, CA – A 29-year-old man from Oxnard was killed and another person was seriously injured in a three-vehicle collision on the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) late Friday night, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Ventura Area Office.
Deadly Collision Near Point Mugu
The crash occurred around 10:08 p.m. on PCH south of Point Mugu, where multiple vehicles were reported blocking lanes, authorities said.
When first responders arrived, they discovered the 29-year-old Oxnard man lying unresponsive on the roadway. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to CHP officials.
Investigation: Car Crossed Into Oncoming Traffic
Preliminary findings show that the man was driving a Hyundai Elantra northbound when, for unknown reasons, he crossed over double yellow lines and entered the southbound lanes.
The Elantra collided head-on with an Acura TSX, driven by a 23-year-old man, CHP reported as per KTLA. The driver of the Hyundai was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of impact.
Moments later, a 38-year-old woman driving a Chevrolet Tahoe northbound struck the already damaged Acura, resulting in further damage but no injuries to her, authorities said.
One Passenger Hospitalized with Major Injuries
The Acura driver, identified only as a 23-year-old man, sustained major injuries and was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for treatment. His current condition has not been released.
CHP confirmed that no arrests were made and that alcohol or drugs are not suspected as factors in the crash.
Highway Closed for Two Hours
The Pacific Coast Highway was closed for about two hours while investigators examined the scene and cleared the wreckage. All lanes were reopened by 12:40 a.m. Saturday morning.
The CHP Ventura Area Office continues to investigate and urges anyone with dashcam footage or information to contact officers at 805-662-2640.
