Stolen Rental Cars from Minneapolis Spark High-Speed Chase Across Wisconsin; 2 Arrested

Jackson County, WITwo Minnesota residents were arrested Monday morning after leading police on a high-speed chase involving stolen rental cars on Interstate 94, authorities reported.

Early Morning Incident

At approximately 7:22 a.m. on September 30, Jackson County deputies received a report from the Wisconsin State Patrol about two stolen vehicles traveling east on I-94. The cars had been taken from a rental company in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and were reported as stolen earlier that morning.

When deputies located the vehicles and attempted a traffic stop, both drivers accelerated away, sparking a high-speed pursuit across multiple counties.

One Suspect Escapes, Second Vehicle Stopped

One of the stolen cars pulled off at an eastbound rest area, and the driver fled into the nearby woods. Police continue their search for the suspect still at large.

The second stolen vehicle continued traveling east into Monroe County, where officers deployed tire spikes near Tomah to safely stop the vehicle, according to the reports. Inside were 18-year-old Makenzie Eisert and 21-year-old Anjel Sarr.

Arrests and Charges

Eisert was taken into custody at the Jackson County Jail and faces multiple charges:

  • Running from police
  • Driving a stolen vehicle
  • Endangering the public
  • Possession of stolen property

Authorities have not yet released details about Anjel Sarr’s charges or any updates on the suspect who remains at large.

Public Safety During High-Speed Chases

Police emphasize that high-speed pursuits are extremely dangerous, not only for law enforcement but also for the public. Vehicles traveling at high speeds can lose control, collide with other cars, or endanger bystanders.

What to Do if You Witness a Police Chase

If you encounter a police pursuit on the road, authorities advise following these safety tips:

  1. Do not try to follow or intervene – Let law enforcement handle the situation. Pursuing a suspect can put your life and others at risk.
  2. Pull over safely – If you are on the same road as the chase, move to the side of the road and stop until the pursuit passes.
  3. Stay calm and alert – Avoid distractions and keep your seatbelt on. Keep your vehicle in park or neutral until the scene is clear.
  4. Report from a safe distance – If safe to do so, you can notify local police of the chase, including details like the vehicle description, direction of travel, and license plate, but only from a safe location.
  5. Do not take photos or videos while driving – Using a phone behind the wheel can create additional hazards.

Following these steps can help protect yourself and others while allowing authorities to safely manage the pursuit.

Ongoing Investigation

Jackson County deputies are continuing their investigation and have asked anyone who may have witnessed the chase or has surveillance footage along I-94 to contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by stolen vehicles and the importance of public safety awareness during high-speed police chases.
