South Bend, IN – A 16-year-old male was arrested early Saturday morning after South Bend police say he shot a 17-year-old and a dog before fleeing, leading officers on a vehicle and foot pursuit through parts of South Bend and Mishawaka.

Shooting Reported

Police were called to the 3100 block of Striped Maple Court, near Portage Avenue and I-80/90, at approximately 1:40 a.m. on September 27, following reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 17-year-old male and a dog suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The teen was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the dog received care at a nearby animal hospital.

Police Chase

While investigating the scene, officers spotted a possible suspect vehicle nearby. Attempts to stop the vehicle led to a pursuit through multiple areas of Mishawaka and South Bend, eventually ending near East Fox Street and Dale Avenue, close to Riley High School.

During the chase, the suspect, later identified as a 16-year-old male, exited the car and led officers on a brief foot chase before being detained. He was taken to the Juvenile Justice Center, according to WTHR.
