Fairview Township, PA – A tragic single-vehicle crash on Exit 40A in York County claimed the life of a 33-year-old man on Sunday morning.
Early Morning Crash
Crews were dispatched shortly after 7:30 a.m. to a report of a car crash. According to the York County Coroner, the driver, a 33-year-old man, died at the scene. The vehicle reportedly left the roadway and struck a concrete barrier head-on before sliding on top of it.
The impact ruptured the car’s fuel tank, causing the vehicle to burst into flames immediately.
Heroic Actions by Witnesses
Pedestrians who saw the crash rushed to help, pulling three people out of the burning vehicle.
- Witnesses began CPR on the unconscious driver
- EMS personnel arrived and continued resuscitation efforts
- Despite their efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene
The coroner arrived around 8:10 a.m. to confirm the fatality. The driver’s identity has not been released, as per WGAL.
Other Victims and Road Closures
The two other passengers were transported to a local hospital, but their conditions are currently unknown.
The Exit 40A ramp remained closed for several hours, reopening at 3:45 p.m., according to a York County dispatcher.
Investigation Underway
The Pennsylvania State Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not yet released further details.
