Robbery Suspect Dies following Police Shooting and Self-Inflicted Stab Wounds in Pueblo

Pueblo, CO – A suspected robbery suspect died Sunday after being shot by Pueblo police officers and stabbing himself, authorities said.

Robbery and Pursuit

The incident began just after 8 a.m. Sunday when Pueblo officers responded to reports of a robbery in the 1100 block of Bonforte Boulevard.

Officers later spotted a man and vehicle matching the suspect’s description about two miles from the initial robbery, near East Eighth Street and North Glendale Avenue.

The suspect led officers on a chase down Eighth Street, which ended when his vehicle crashed in the 700 block.

Confrontation with Police

After the crash, the man, who has not been publicly identified, pulled out a knife and did not comply with commands to drop the weapon, according to the Pueblo Police Department.

  • Officers shot the suspect, though it remains unclear how many officers fired their weapons, how many times he was shot, or where he was injured.
  • Following the shooting, the man stabbed himself multiple times.

Officers on the scene used tasers to subdue and disarm him, providing medical aid immediately. Paramedics transported the suspect to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Investigation and Identification

The Fremont County Coroner, acting as coroner for Pueblo County following the resignation of former coroner Brian Cotter, will identify the man at a later date, as reported.

The coroner will also release the cause and manner of death, including whether the suspect died from gunshot or stab wounds.

Use of Force Review

The 10th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team will conduct an investigation into the officers’ use of force. None of the officers involved have been publicly identified at this time.

Authorities said the case remains under investigation, and additional details will be released as they become available.
