Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia area is in for a stretch of calm and pleasant weather, with little more than sun, clouds, and mild warmth to carry us through the weekend and into next week. While technically still summer until September 22, the region is already settling into an early taste of fall’s gentler side.
Weekend Forecast
- Friday: Sunshine dominates early, with some scattered afternoon clouds. A weak cold front passing through may bring a sprinkle or two, but nothing significant. Highs will reach around 82°F with overnight lows near 60.
- Saturday: Conditions remain similar, with highs in the low 80s, a mix of sun and clouds, and a slim chance of stray sprinkles.
- Sunday: The warmest day of the stretch, with mid-80s expected under partly to mostly sunny skies.
Looking Ahead
The new workweek is shaping up much like the weekend — calm, comfortable, and fairly dry. Highs will hover in the low 80s, with mostly sunny skies and pleasant overnight lows in the low 60s.
- Monday: Mostly sunny, high 81, low 63.
- Tuesday: Partly sunny, high 80, low 60.
- Wednesday: Partly sunny, high 81, low 61.
- Thursday: Partly sunny, high 79, low 61.
The Dryness Factor
While many will welcome this “boringly beautiful” weather pattern, there is a growing concern: the lack of rainfall. Abnormally dry conditions are starting to appear across the Delaware Valley. By next Thursday, when the U.S. Drought Monitor updates, some parts of the region may be classified in moderate drought.
So far this month, rainfall is 1.08 inches below average, and for the year, totals are 4.51 inches below normal. Since January, Philadelphia has recorded 26.49 inches of rain, compared to 33.02 inches at this time last year.
For now, the stretch of dry, sunny, and calm weather continues — good news for weekend plans, but something to watch for farmers, gardeners, and those keeping an eye on drought conditions.
