Methamphetamine Found During Arson Investigation in Richmond, Ind.

Richmond, IN — Deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office uncovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia while investigating a suspicious house fire in Richmond over the weekend.

Fire Reported on Sycamore Lane

The fire occurred on Saturday morning at a residence on Sycamore Lane, where emergency responders found a family in distress. Fortunately, police reported that everyone safely escaped, thanks to family members who helped rescue a man trapped inside the home.

“Thankfully, the family members were able to reach the man, and no one was harmed,” said a spokesperson for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Fire Determined to Be Arson

Upon investigating the incident, officials determined that the fire had been intentionally set. As a result, a Richmond woman was arrested on felony arson charges. The woman’s name has not been disclosed pending further legal proceedings.

Drugs and Firearms Discovered

While examining the property during the arson investigation, deputies discovered significant evidence of illegal activity. According to WDNT, authorities found:

  • 51 grams of methamphetamine
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Two firearms

“The discovery of methamphetamine and firearms is troubling and will lead to additional investigations and charges,” a police officer stated.

More Charges May Be Filed

Due to the nature of the discovery, more charges could potentially be filed, including those related to drug possession and illegal firearms, depending on the ongoing investigation.
