SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A cold front is moving across central Illinois, bringing cooler nights and lower humidity for the rest of the week, although drivers south of Interstate 70 may encounter a few thunderstorms this evening before drier air sets in.
Cold Front and Weather Shift
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, the cold front will stall south of the region overnight, allowing a more comfortable, seasonable air mass to settle into Illinois. Temperatures tonight will drop into the upper 60s.
By Wednesday, skies will turn mostly sunny, with highs ranging from 81 to 85 degrees. The lower humidity will make for a much more pleasant stretch of weather through the midweek.
Comfortable Weather Through Thursday and Friday
NWS reports that the Thursday and Friday will continue to feature comfortable afternoons, with highs in the low to mid-80s and overnight lows dipping into the 50s in some areas. The risk of rain remains minimal for the midweek period, with less than a 10% chance of thunderstorms.
Weekend Weather Outlook
The next weather change arrives on Saturday when another cold front will push through the state, bringing a slight chance of thunderstorms, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours. Residents with outdoor plans should monitor the forecast closely, as the storms may bring short but intense rainfall.
