Golfer Struck by Lightning at New Jersey Course Receives Outpouring of Support

Florham Park, NJ — The golf community is uniting in prayers and support for a 36-year-old golfer who was struck by lightning on Sunday evening, August 18, 2025, while playing at Pinch Brook Golf Course in Florham Park, New Jersey.

According to The Spun, the lightning strike occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. ET, just as the golfer was finishing his round. Emergency personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene at 6:18 p.m. ET, following the devastating incident.

“By the time officers got to the scene, a number of bystanders were already performing CPR on the 36-year-old victim. One of the bystanders happened to be a veteran member of the Florham Park First Aid Squad and retired captain in the Morris County Sheriff’s office,” CBS News reported.

Golf Community Sends Prayers for Recovery

Miraculously, the golfer survived the strike but was hospitalized for treatment. Prayers from fans, family, and community members have flooded in as the golfer continues to recover from the traumatic event.

This incident follows a disturbing trend of lightning strikes on golf courses in New Jersey. In July, Simon John Mariani, 28, tragically died after being struck while golfing in Hamburg. Just days later, Robert Montgomery, 61, was struck by lightning while at an archery range, also resulting in death.

“There have reportedly been 13 lightning strikes in the U.S. this year,” the report noted.

What to Do if Struck by Lightning

According to the National Weather Service, lightning victims are safe to touch but may require immediate medical attention. They recommend calling 9-1-1 and, if necessary, starting CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) if available.

“Cardiac arrest is the immediate cause of death for those who die,” the National Weather Service advised.
