Lake Charles Drug Bust Nets Meth, DMT, Paraphernalia; Two Arrested

LAKE CHARLES, La. – Two individuals from Lake Charles are facing multiple charges after being caught with a substantial amount of illegal narcotics, including methamphetamine and dimethyltryptamine (DMT), in a bust worth an estimated $510,000.

The Arrest and Pursuit

On August 14, Darius Nelson, 33, and Natalie Andres, 39, were arrested following an operation by the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team), which had been investigating Nelson for allegedly distributing crystal methamphetamine from a motel room in Sulphur.

When the team attempted to execute a search warrant at the motel, they saw Nelson and Andres leaving the parking lot in an SUV. Detectives attempted to stop the vehicle, but Nelson, the driver, fled the scene, initiating a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, Andres, the passenger, exited the vehicle and was taken into custody.

Discovery of Narcotics

The pursuit continued across the I-10 bridge, where Nelson was observed tossing two bags into the water. Law enforcement agencies, including the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO), assisted in stopping the vehicle near Common Street and Prien Lake Road in Lake Charles. As per KFLY, Nelson was apprehended shortly after.

Upon searching the vehicle, deputies found a large amount of methamphetamine and DMT liquid. The CPSO Marine Division recovered the two bags that Nelson had thrown, confirming they contained significant quantities of methamphetamine.

A further search of the SUV revealed an additional five gallons of DMT liquid, eight more pounds of crystal methamphetamine, two ounces of marijuana, and various chemicals used in DMT production, as well as drug paraphernalia.

Charges and Bond Details

Nelson and Andres were booked into the Calcasieu Parish Jail, facing several serious charges, including:

  • Possession of CDS I with intent to distribute
  • Possession of CDS II with intent to distribute
  • Possession of CDS I
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Operation of a clandestine laboratory

Nelson also faces additional charges of obstruction of justice, aggravated flight, hit-and-run, and reckless driving. Nelson’s bond was set at $3,092,100, while Andres’ bond was set at $2,976,000.

Impact of the Arrest and Ongoing Drug Battle

This bust is another significant step in the ongoing battle against illegal drug distribution in Louisiana. With the combined efforts of local, state, and federal agencies, law enforcement is actively working to dismantle large drug trafficking operations and reduce the flow of dangerous substances into communities.

Dangers of Narcotic Distribution

The case serves as a reminder of the pervasive dangers of illegal drug distribution and its impact on public safety. The wide availability of methamphetamine and other controlled substances continues to be a serious threat, affecting individuals and families across the state. Authorities urge the public to report any suspicious activities to help combat drug-related crimes.
