Chicago, IL — A 19-year-old woman tragically lost her life late Thursday after the sedan she was riding in ran a red light and collided with another vehicle on Lower Wacker Drive, according to Chicago police.

Police reported the collision occurred around 11:30 p.m. in the 0-100 block of West Lower Wacker Drive in the downtown Loop area. According to authorities, a black sedan, driven by a 19-year-old man with the woman as his passenger, ran a red light while traveling eastbound and struck a red SUV attempting a left turn westbound.

“A red SUV driven by a 56-year-old man with a 19-year-old male passenger was headed west when it attempted a left turn. At the same time, a black sedan driven by a 19-year-old man with a 19-year-old female passenger went through a red light, striking the SUV,” police said (source).

  • The SUV’s driver and passenger were unharmed and declined medical treatment.
  • The sedan’s driver, 19, suffered body injuries and was taken to Northwestern Hospital in fair condition.
