Las Vegas, NV – A drunk driver is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly driving the wrong way on Interstate 11 and crashing head-on into another vehicle, leaving the other driver critically injured, according to court records.
Atruz Manning, 28, was indicted by a grand jury on August 7 for two felony charges: driving under the influence (DUI) resulting in substantial bodily harm and reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm.
Crash Details and Investigation
The incident occurred on June 28 around 7 a.m., when Manning was driving northbound on the southbound lanes of I-11 south of Charleston Boulevard. He collided with a woman driving to work in a red Kia sedan.
Manning, who had been at Drai’s nightclub earlier in the night, admitted to Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) officers that he had been drinking. When officers arrived, they observed vomit on Manning’s clothes and inside his car, and he appeared intoxicated, with bloodshot eyes and a strong alcohol odor.
Manning’s blood alcohol content was found to be .138%—more than double the legal limit of .08%—approximately two hours after the crash as reported by KLAS.
Injuries to the Victim
The woman, who was heading to her job as a veterinary assistant, was critically injured in the crash. Emergency responders had to extricate her from the wreckage, where she was found in a severely contorted position.
She was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition. According to a family member, the victim underwent nine surgeries and spent approximately a month in the hospital.
Her injuries included a broken back, dislocated leg, and multiple fractures. She also required emergency surgery during her recovery, with the family member recalling seeing her on a ventilator in the ICU.
Manning’s Criminal Record and Vehicle Issues
Court records reveal that Manning had no insurance at the time of the crash, and his driver’s license had been revoked. His vehicle registration was also suspended, and a records check showed his car had been last insured in July 2021.
Despite these violations, Manning posted $75,000 bond and was released from jail. His bond conditions include electronic monitoring, alcohol monitoring, and a no driving order until further court proceedings.
Dangers of Driving Under the Influence
Driving under the influence remains a leading cause of fatal and serious accidents. Alcohol impairs reaction time, decision-making, and motor skills, increasing the risk of crashes, particularly when drivers are speeding or disoriented.
Authorities warn that even a small amount of alcohol can impair driving ability, and the consequences can be devastating for innocent victims.
