Orlando, FL – A Colombian drug lord was arrested in Central Florida this month for his alleged involvement in 29 murders and other violent crimes, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Guillermo Perez Alzate, a former paramilitary leader of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC), is accused of orchestrating drug smuggling operations to fund the group’s illegal activities. ICE officials have described Perez as a “confessed murderer” and a “criminal alien.”
Background and Previous Arrests
Perez was extradited to the U.S. in 2008 to face charges for drug smuggling. At the time, he was arrested alongside 13 other members of the AUC, a transnational criminal organization known for using cocaine trafficking to finance its operations.
During his trial in Florida, Perez admitted to murdering 29 people, a statement that further solidified his reputation as a violent criminal. In 2009, he was re-arrested in Georgia for another charge of conspiracy to import cocaine into the U.S.
Despite being ordered deported in 2017, his removal was delayed at the time. As per ClickOrlando, he was finally apprehended again this month as part of an ongoing effort to hold him accountable for his alleged crimes in both Colombia and the U.S.

Perez’s arrest comes after years of legal battles and multiple attempts by U.S. authorities to secure his deportation. He is now facing further charges related to his activities in Colombia, with ICE officials stating that he will face justice for his crimes once his legal proceedings in the U.S. are complete.
