Thunderstorms to Hit Metro Detroit on Tuesday Amid Hot and Muggy Stretch

Detroit, MI – Southeast Michigan will continue its run of hot and humid weather into the new week, with thunderstorm chances increasing for both Monday and Tuesday, forecasters say.

Weekend highs in the 90s are set to continue, with humidity making it feel like the mid-90s. That same moisture will help fuel scattered showers and strong thunderstorms over the region.

Monday’s Forecast

Monday will bring a mix of sunshine and clouds before storms develop in the afternoon and evening. The strongest storms will be capable of heavy rainfall and gusty winds up to 60 mph.

Forecasters say rain could fall at a rate of up to an inch per hour, raising the risk of street flooding in low-lying areas. Storms should weaken by sunset, though a few showers may linger into the night.

Overnight skies turned partly cloudy, with lows in the lower 70s as reported by ClickonDetroit

Tuesday’s Forecast

Another round of showers and storms is expected Tuesday, with a marginal risk — level one out of five — that a few storms could become severe anywhere in Southeast Michigan.

Afternoon and evening storms could bring downpours and strong gusts up to 60 mph, with the most intense storms likely between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Localized flooding will again be a concern.

Apart from the storms, Tuesday will be another hot and humid day with highs around 90°F, which would mark a heat wave for Metro Detroit.

Mid- to Late-Week Outlook

Wednesday will still be warm and muggy, but slightly cooler, with highs in the mid-80s and a few early morning showers possible. Overnight lows will dip into the mid-60s under partly cloudy skies.

Thursday will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid-80s, and Friday will bring pleasant conditions with highs in the mid- to upper-80s, ideal for outdoor plans.

The weekend will feature mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, with highs near 90°F. A few showers and storms could interrupt Sunday’s sunshine.

Heat and Storm Safety

Residents are advised to take precautions during hot and humid weather and potential severe storms:

  • Stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours
  • Seek indoor shelter if thunder is heard nearby
  • Avoid driving through flooded roads
  • Secure loose outdoor items ahead of strong winds
