Columbus, GA – A months-long joint operation between the Columbus Police Department’s Special Operations Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old man on multiple drug and firearm charges.
Authorities confirmed that Joshua Alexander was taken into custody on August 7, 2025, after a search warrant uncovered a significant quantity of illegal drugs, cash, and a firearm.
Large Quantities of Drugs and a Firearm Seized
During the search, investigators confiscated 3,428.2 grams of methamphetamine, valued at approximately $154,269 on the street. They also recovered 23.3 grams of cocaine worth around $1,165, $2,450 in cash, and a Springfield XD 9mm handgun.
As reported, the firearm is suspected to have an altered identification number, adding to the seriousness of the charges.
Multiple Charges Filed
Alexander is facing a range of charges, including:
- Trafficking Methamphetamine
- Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime
- Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
- Criminal Use of an Article with Altered ID (Firearm)
- Possession of Drug-Related Objects
- Obstruction (Misdemeanor)
Court records indicate that Alexander has prior felony convictions, making the firearm possession charges even more severe.
Dangers of Methamphetamine and Cocaine
Authorities warn that the high volume of methamphetamine seized in this case could have had devastating effects if distributed in the community. Methamphetamine is a powerful stimulant known to cause severe addiction, violent behavior, and long-term damage to the brain and heart.
Cocaine use, while also addictive, carries significant health risks such as heart attacks, strokes, and respiratory failure. When combined with other substances, the danger of overdose increases dramatically.
Drug enforcement officials emphasize that large-scale trafficking operations often fuel additional criminal activity, including gun violence and organized crime.
Law Enforcement’s Continued Efforts
The successful conclusion of this investigation highlights the importance of local and federal partnerships in addressing the flow of illegal drugs and firearms. The Columbus Police Department and ATF say they remain committed to dismantling networks that supply dangerous substances and weapons to the community.
Officials encourage residents to report suspicious activity, noting that community involvement plays a crucial role in keeping neighborhoods safe.
