The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the cause of the accident. No information has been released regarding speed, weather conditions, or whether drugs or alcohol may have played a factor.
Staying Safe on Rural Highways
Crashes involving ejections often indicate the absence or failure of seat belts, which drastically increases the risk of fatal or life-altering injuries. Law enforcement urges all drivers and passengers to:
- Always wear seat belts, even for short trips.
- Avoid distractions behind the wheel.
- Drive at speeds appropriate for road conditions.
- Ensure vehicle maintenance, especially tires and brakes, is up to date.
With long, straight rural highways like State Highway 55, even a momentary lapse in control can lead to devastating consequences.
