Seattle, WA — A 42-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition after being violently assaulted and robbed late Wednesday night in Pioneer Square, prompting a swift response and arrests by the Seattle Police Department, officials confirmed.
Vicious Assault Caught on Camera
The attack occurred around 11 p.m. on August 6, near the 300 block of South Main Street. Officers responded to reports of an assault and found the victim lying on the ground with a bleeding head wound.
According to police, the man’s wallet, phone, and shoes had been stolen during the attack. Officers provided first aid until Seattle Fire Department medics arrived and transported him to Harborview Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.
“This was one of the most brutal and unprovoked assaults officers have encountered,” SPD said in a statement after reviewing surveillance footage.
As reported by Yahoo News, nearby security cameras showed three suspects punching the man in the head, knocking him to the ground, and then repeatedly kicking him while he was defenseless.
Shocking Level of Violence
In a particularly disturbing moment caught on video, one suspect returned to the victim and kicked him in the head with such force that officers described it as “like kicking a soccer ball or football.” A witness told police the man lost consciousness during the assault.
Key details revealed in the footage:
- All three suspects appeared to coordinate the attack
- The victim offered no resistance
- The final blow came after the initial beating ended
“It was a targeted, merciless act of violence against someone who posed no threat,” a detective said while reviewing the footage.
Suspects Tracked and Arrested
With help from surveillance cameras operated by the Real Time Crime Center, officers located the suspects near 6th Avenue and South Jackson Street. One of the arrests was captured live on the department’s system.
The suspects include:
- A 28-year-old man, who was booked into King County Jail on robbery charges.
- A 24-year-old man, who allegedly tried to grab an officer’s firearm while being detained. He faces additional charges of attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer and obstructing a public officer.
- A 17-year-old girl, who ran from officers before being apprehended. She was booked into juvenile detention at the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children & Family Justice Center. Police requested a charge of obstructing a public officer.
Victim’s Belongings Recovered
Police confirmed they recovered the victim’s stolen items from one of the suspects and returned them to him at the hospital. His current medical status has not been updated, but officers say he is expected to recover with proper care.
- Surveillance footage played a key role in identifying and arresting all three suspects.
- SPD credits their Real Time Crime Center as being crucial to the case’s quick turnaround.
This incident adds to growing concern around violent street crime in Seattle’s downtown core, especially in late-night hours.
