Laredo, TX — A coordinated mail operation in Laredo resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old man found with a package containing more than 150 THC vape cartridges, according to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.
Package Pickup Leads to Felony Arrest
On August 4, the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit partnered with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service to monitor a suspicious package. Investigators tracked it to the 4400 block of Peacock Street, where Troy Gutierrez arrived to collect it.
Authorities discovered 155 THC vapes inside the parcel. Gutierrez was immediately taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance, a second-degree felony under Texas law.
Sheriff Martin Cuellar reaffirmed his office’s commitment to working closely with other law enforcement agencies to enhance public safety. He urged residents to report suspicious activities by calling 956-415-BUST (2878), noting that tips leading to arrests may qualify for cash rewards.
Dangers of Drug Abuse
Law enforcement officials stress that THC vape cartridges — often marketed to young people — can carry significant health and legal risks. High concentrations of THC can lead to impaired judgment, memory issues, and, in some cases, psychosis. Unregulated products may also contain harmful additives, posing additional health hazards.
In Texas, possession of THC concentrates is treated more severely than traditional marijuana, often resulting in felony charges that can lead to lengthy prison sentences and a permanent criminal record.
