Sand Springs, OK – A juvenile was taken into custody following a high-speed chase through Sand Springs on Thursday night, after allegedly stealing a vehicle from a local institution, authorities reported. The pursuit involved both the Sand Springs Police Department and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), ending without serious injuries but raising concerns about juvenile crime and public safety.
Vehicle Theft Sparks Police Pursuit
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, law enforcement was called to assist in the pursuit at approximately 8:30 p.m. on January 1. Officials said the chase began after a juvenile male reportedly stole a vehicle from a staff member at the Tulsa Boys Home, a residential facility for at-risk youth.
Officers with the Sand Springs Police Department located the stolen vehicle, but the driver failed to yield, prompting a pursuit.
Troopers Join the Chase
An OHP trooper joined the pursuit along U.S. 412 near 65th West Avenue. Authorities said the trooper attempted a tactical vehicle intervention near the Gilcrease Expressway to stop the vehicle, but the juvenile was able to recover and continue driving.
The pursuit continued through city streets, posing potential risks to other drivers and pedestrians.
Chase Ends With Crash Into Concrete Wall
The high-speed chase concluded when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a concrete wall at the northwest corner of the IDL (Inner Dispersal Loop). Law enforcement reported that the juvenile was not injured in the crash.
The driver was subsequently taken into custody without incident. Although there were no immediate injuries, the juvenile was transported to a hospital for evaluation before being taken to the Community Intervention Center to face charges.

Authorities have not released the name or age of the juvenile suspect, citing privacy protections for minors involved in criminal cases. Law enforcement continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the vehicle theft and chase.
