Queens Mother Charged with Murder after Allegedly Killing 1-year-old Son and Attempting Self-Harm

New York City, NY – A Queens mother is facing murder charges after authorities say she allegedly killed her 1-year-old son and then attempted to slash her own wrists inside a home in Jamaica, Queens on Monday afternoon, police and sources reported.

Toddler Found Unresponsive in Queens Home

Police responded to a private residence on 157th Street near 108th Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Monday after reports of an emergency inside the home. Upon arrival, officers found the toddler, later identified as Charlie Ramraykha, unconscious and unresponsive in the bathroom.

The child’s mother, 28-year-old Nicole Boodhai, was discovered in the same bathroom with slash wounds to her wrists, authorities said. Both were immediately transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Tragically, Charlie was pronounced dead, while his mother was listed in stable condition.

Charges Filed Against Mother

Police have charged Nicole Boodhai with:

  • Murder
  • Endangering the welfare of a child

The cause of Charlie’s death has not yet been officially released, and investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Community and Neighbor Accounts

A worker at a nearby bodega told reporters that the toddler’s parents would occasionally visit the store to buy essentials such as milk and water. The worker indicated that the parents appeared to be living separately, a fact confirmed by police, who noted that Boodhai and her son had different addresses.

The witness recalled seeing a crying woman run out of the house, later bandaged on her arms, as authorities arrived. The mother appeared unconscious or semi-conscious, and emergency responders took her into custody and transported her for medical care.

“The lady ran out of the house, and the man pulled up in the car and came to the house. I don’t know if he’s the father, but he came at the same time the police came,” the worker said. He added, “I think she got cut because she had [bandages] on her arms when she came out of the house. She was taken out, her eyes were closed. Everybody was thinking she was dead.”

Shock and Sadness in the Community

Residents in the Jamaica neighborhood expressed shock and sorrow over the incident. Many described seeing police officers rushing to the scene and feeling devastated about the tragic loss of a young child.

“It’s sad what happened. I feel terrible when I see the police running,” the bodega worker said.

Investigation Underway

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the toddler’s death and Boodhai’s actions. Officials have not yet disclosed how Charlie died, and the investigation remains active. Police are also looking into family dynamics and possible witnesses to understand the events leading up to the tragedy.

Officials urge anyone with additional information about the case to contact the Queens Police Department.
