Lenoir County, NC – During the holiday week, law enforcement in Lenoir County was actively involved in multiple enforcement actions, including a drug-related arrest following a DUI crash.
The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reduction Team (CRASH), along with the Street Crimes and Rapid Response (SCARR) team, responded to a serious incident on Dec. 24.
DUI Crash on NC 11 North
The incident occurred on NC 11 North, where the two teams assisted the North Carolina Highway Patrol with an alcohol-involved motor vehicle collision. Deputies responded quickly to investigate the crash and ensure the safety of the public.
During the investigation, a SCARR deputy discovered felony narcotics inside the vehicle, including cocaine and methamphetamine.
Arrest and Charges
The driver, Rashad Barnes of Kinston, North Carolina, was immediately cited and arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Cocaine. Barnes was held without bond under a PIA hold at the Lenoir County Detention Center, pending further legal proceedings.
The sheriff’s office emphasized that the arrest was part of their ongoing efforts to reduce crashes and illegal drug activity in Lenoir County, especially during the holiday season, when traffic and impaired driving incidents tend to increase.
