Van Wert, OH – Police in Van Wert are warning parents and guardians after a major drug bust uncovered a wide array of narcotics, THC products, and weapons, some of which were allegedly marketed toward minors.
Overdose Leads to Discovery
The investigation began Sunday when Van Wert Police and EMS responded to a possible overdose at a home on the 700 block of North Washington Street, near Jubilee Park.
Officers found a young man unresponsive on the floor, who was quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment. While at the scene, authorities observed drugs and paraphernalia in plain view, prompting a more thorough investigation.
Massive Drug and Weapons Seizure
After obtaining a search warrant, police reported confiscating:
- An “unbelievable amount” of THC vape pens and cartridges, reportedly marketed toward those under 18
- A significant quantity of cocaine
- Marijuana and hash oil
- Several rifles and ammunition
- A flamethrower
- Various pills and other untested drugs
- Large amounts of cash, gold, silver, and copper bars
The total value of the seized items is estimated at approximately $250,000, according to Chief Doug Weigle.
Warning to the Community
Chief Weigle urged parents and grandparents to carefully inspect packaging and products in their homes, noting that certain THC items may be designed to appeal to minors. He said:
“We encourage all parents and grandparents to take a close look at the packaging. If you see these items or wrappers at your residence, you will want to investigate further.”
Authorities are reminding the community that drug sales and trafficking pose serious risks, especially to children and teens, and are asking residents to report suspicious activity.
Call for Public Assistance
Anyone with information regarding drug sales or trafficking in the area is urged to contact Van Wert Police at 419-238-2462. Officials stressed that community vigilance is key to preventing drug-related incidents and protecting minors from potentially dangerous substances.
How can parents and communities better identify and prevent drugs marketed toward minors? Should stricter penalties be imposed on sellers targeting youth?
