St. Louis, Missouri – A police chase on I-70 westbound near W. Florissant ended tragically Sunday morning, resulting in the death of a 29-year-old woman and temporary closure of the interstate for several hours, authorities confirmed.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reported that the interstate reopened around 7:15 a.m. after the crash and subsequent investigation cleared the roadway.
Chase Begins in Fairmont City, Illinois
According to police, the chase began in Fairmont City, Illinois, when officers attempted to pull over a car for speeding. The driver, later identified as Precious Black, initially complied but then fled the traffic stop, dragging an officer for several feet in the process.
The officer involved sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Crash on I-70 Ends in Fatality
The pursuit continued until the vehicle reached I-70 at Carrie Avenue, where the car crashed, killing Precious Black. Officials have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances of the crash beyond the fatality.
