Walnut Cove, NC – A drug trafficking investigation in Stokes County resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the discovery of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in a home where an infant was present, authorities said.

Search Warrant Executed at Walnut Cove Residence

On November 25, the Stokes County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 1070 Sapp Drive in Walnut Cove. The operation, carried out by the Special Investigation Division with support from the Special Response Team, uncovered 78 grams of liquid methamphetamine along with various drug paraphernalia.

Officials say the presence of an infant in the home prompted immediate involvement from Child Protective Services.

Two Arrested and Facing Multiple Charges

Law enforcement arrested Larry Dexter Sapp Jr. and Melissa Ann Johnson at the scene. Both face a range of charges, including:

  • Trafficking in methamphetamine
  • Maintaining a dwelling place for controlled substances
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Child abuse

Bond was set at $150,000 for Sapp and $100,000 for Johnson. Court appearances are scheduled for January 21, 2026, in Stokes County District Court.

Sheriff Emphasizes Community Protection

Sheriff Joey Lemons highlighted the department’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable residents, stating:

Our office will stand strong to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all of our citizens, especially the most vulnerable, in this case an infant child.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case and encourage anyone with additional information on drug activity in the area to contact the sheriff’s office.
