Wichita County, TX – A 76-year-old man was arrested on December 16 after a high-risk vehicle pursuit through Wichita County, following an initial traffic violation, authorities said. The chase involved multiple streets, property damage, and collisions with law enforcement vehicles before deputies were able to bring the incident to a close.
Pursuit Begins After Traffic Violation
The incident began around 7:40 p.m. in the 1300 block of Martin Luther King Blvd, when deputies attempted to stop the driver for a traffic violation. The driver, later identified as Louis Earl Davidson Jr., failed to stop and began evading officers through several streets in the county.
According to authorities, the vehicle traveled east on Martin Luther King Blvd before stopping at East Scott, then turning onto Homestead Lane and proceeding onto Jay Road, where Davidson Jr. struck a mailbox and entered a private driveway, circling a residence before re-emerging onto the road.
Spike Strips and Vehicle Collisions
Law enforcement deployed spike strips at the intersection of Kincall and Goodman Road in an attempt to disable the vehicle. Despite this, Davidson Jr. continued to evade capture, striking a patrol unit and backing into another county vehicle during the chase.
The pursuit continued until deputies executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) on Jay Road, finally allowing law enforcement to apprehend Davidson Jr.
Arrest and Medical Evaluation
Following the arrest, Davidson Jr. was transported to Clay County Memorial Hospital for a medical evaluation. Officials have not released further details regarding his medical status.
Charges Filed
Davidson Jr. is facing multiple charges, including:
- Evading Arrest/Detention with a Motor Vehicle
- Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer
He will now face legal proceedings based on the charges filed against him.
Community and Law Enforcement Response
Authorities emphasized the danger posed to both the public and law enforcement during the pursuit. The Wichita County Sheriff’s Office reminded drivers to comply with traffic stops and warned that evading law enforcement could result in serious criminal charges.
Officials also highlighted the successful use of the Precision Immobilization Technique, which allowed deputies to end the chase safely while minimizing risks to bystanders.
