Katy, TX – Harris County authorities are investigating a fatal dog mauling after a man in his early 60s was found dead in Katy following an attack involving multiple dogs.

According to Precinct 5 deputies, emergency responders were called to a park in the 2500 block of Porter Road after reports of a violent dog attack. Witnesses reported that three pit bulls were involved in the mauling. Although bystanders managed to drive the dogs away, paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity, but family members confirmed he often walked the park trails in the morning.

Dogs Attack Mother and Toddler

After the initial mauling, the dogs reportedly ran into a nearby neighborhood, attacking a mother and her 3-year-old daughter in the 23600 block of Permission Creek Lane.

Both victims were transported to a hospital with minor injuries and are expected to recover fully.

Deputies Locate All Dogs

By approximately 12:50 p.m., deputies had located all three dogs involved in the attacks. One of the dogs was shot and later euthanized after escaping into a drainage ditch, while the remaining two were captured safely.

The surviving dogs are being held under a 10-day quarantine, and their future will be decided by a judge.

Authorities Investigate Owner and Circumstances

During a press conference, Sgt. Jason Brown of the HCSO Homicide Division said that while such attacks are rare, they do occur in Harris County every few years.

“These types of attacks are unusual, but we do see them from time to time,” Sgt. Brown said.

Investigators confirmed the dogs belong to a local family, but it remains unclear how the animals escaped. Detectives are interviewing the owners to gather additional information. Local animal control officials reported that the family and their dogs had no prior history of incidents.

Community Urged to Stay Vigilant

Officials are urging residents to exercise caution around loose dogs and to report any suspicious or aggressive animal behavior immediately. The incident underscores the potential dangers posed by unrestrained pets, particularly in residential areas and public parks.
