Brevard County, FL — A tragic shooting in Port St. John has resulted in a first-degree murder indictment. Tyjah Bellinger, 23, was formally charged on Wednesday for the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, Lendzi Lakeman, 28, which occurred on November 16.
Shooting Incident at Carlow Avenue Home
According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 7000 block of Carlow Avenue after receiving reports of gunfire. Authorities said a 911 caller reported hearing three gunshots and later witnessed Bellinger firing additional shots into the home’s open garage before fleeing the scene in a Kia vehicle.
When deputies arrived, Lakeman was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
Arrest and Statements
Law enforcement located Bellinger at a family member’s home in Port St. John, where he was taken into custody without incident.
During initial interviews, Bellinger reportedly told a relative that he had been handling the firearm, tripped, and the gun discharged once. However, prosecutors indicated that he had actually fired an AR-style pistol 12 times during the shooting.
Charges and Detention
Tyjah Bellinger is now facing first-degree murder charges and is being held without bond at Brevard County Jail. Authorities have not yet provided details on a potential trial date but emphasized that the investigation remains active.
