Columbia, Missouri — A Columbia man was taken into custody on Monday after a major drug investigation in Boone County resulted in the discovery of a large quantity of suspected narcotics, firearms, and other evidence, according to authorities.
Drug Investigation Sparks Police Action
The incident unfolded after the Columbia Police Department (CPD) executed two search warrants at a residence located on Huntridge Drive in Columbia. Officers had been investigating suspected illegal drug activity connected to the property, ultimately leading them to carry out the coordinated operation early in the week.
Authorities reported that the search was part of an ongoing effort to curb the spread of dangerous narcotics—particularly fentanyl, which has been responsible for a rising number of overdoses across Missouri and the nation.
Suspect Located Inside Vehicle During Warrant Execution
During the operation, officers encountered 61-year-old Frazier D. Pratt Jr., a resident of Columbia. Police located Pratt inside his vehicle near the home while executing the warrants. He was immediately detained as officers continued the search of the property.
Investigators stated that evidence found at the scene strongly tied Pratt to illegal drug trafficking and weapon possession. His arrest followed a documented pattern of activity that police say escalated over time.
Significant Amount of Fentanyl and Weapons Recovered
Court records reveal that officers uncovered 1.4 pounds of suspected fentanyl, a dangerously high amount of the synthetic opioid known for its extreme potency. Authorities emphasize that even a small quantity of fentanyl can be fatal, making the seizure especially significant.
Along with the drugs, CPD officers also recovered:
- Three firearms
- Two cell phones believed to be used for drug-related communication
- More than $2,000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales
Officials noted that seizures of this scale are considered substantial and pose a serious risk to the community if they go undetected.
Post-Miranda Admission Strengthens Case
According to CPD, Pratt participated in a post-Miranda interview, during which he allegedly admitted to trafficking drugs and illegally possessing weapons. Law enforcement officials say these statements further solidified the charges brought against him.
Investigators assert that the combination of narcotics, weapons, and cash is consistent with organized drug distribution.
Multiple Serious Charges Filed
Following his arrest, Frazier D. Pratt Jr. was charged with several felony offenses, including:
- First-Degree Drug Trafficking Over Statutory Amount
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
- Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Possessing a Weapon While Committing a Felony
- Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Two counts of Armed Criminal Action
These charges carry severe potential penalties due to the quantity of fentanyl involved and the presence of firearms, both of which substantially elevate the seriousness of the case.
Suspect Held Without Bond
Pratt was booked into the Boone County Jail and is currently being held without bond. Court proceedings are expected to follow as the investigation continues.
Authorities have not yet announced whether additional suspects or related investigations are underway, but CPD emphasized its continued commitment to combating drug trafficking within the community.
