Spring Arbor, Mich. — A routine traffic stop in Spring Arbor, Michigan, spiralled into a full police pursuit early Monday morning, ultimately ending with the arrest of a driver with a BAC of .17%—more than twice the legal limit, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the incident began around 7:30 a.m. near Star Street, where a Jackson County deputy attempted to pull over a vehicle. As the deputy approached, the driver suddenly sped off, prompting an immediate pursuit.
Police Set Up Stop Sticks at Multiple Locations
The chase continued through the Spring Arbor area as additional law enforcement agencies stepped in to assist. According to officials, Michigan State Police troopers deployed stop sticks at Spring Arbor Road and Reynolds Road, while a sheriff’s deputy sergeant placed another set at Reynolds and Vrooman Roads.
The fleeing vehicle eventually struck the stop sticks, disabling the tires and forcing the driver to bring the car to a halt.
Driver’s Blood Alcohol Content was .17%
Once stopped, deputies arrested the suspect and conducted a preliminary breath test, revealing a blood alcohol content of .17%, significantly above the legal limit of .08%.
Authorities have not yet released the driver’s identity, but they confirmed the individual is facing several serious charges, including:
- Fleeing and Eluding
- Driving With a Suspended License
- Operating While Intoxicated – Third Offense
Officials have not disclosed what prompted the initial traffic stop before the chase began.

The case remains under review as deputies continue to piece together the chain of events leading up to the early-morning pursuit. No injuries or additional property damage have been reported.
