Lake County, FL — A 72-year-old man from Winter Haven died Thursday evening following a crash on U.S. 27, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. just south of Ruby Red Boulevard in Lake County.
Driver May Have Suffered Medical Emergency
An FHP crash report revealed that the victim, who was driving a 2015 Jeep Wrangler, was heading southbound on U.S. 27 when he “may have suffered a medical episode,” causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
After veering off the roadway to the right, the Jeep struck an electrical box before continuing into a ditch, troopers said.
Emergency Response and Fatal Outcome
Emergency crews quickly arrived at the scene and transported the driver to a local hospital. Despite medical efforts, the 72-year-old man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no additional injuries were reported, as per the reports.

The Florida Highway Patrol stated that the crash remains under investigation, with troopers working to determine the full sequence of events and whether the suspected medical episode was the primary cause.
