Ventura, CA — Police are asking the public for assistance in locating two suspects responsible for a violent armed robbery over the weekend that left a 70-year-old man injured while walking near the Ventura beachfront. The incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Ventura Police Department.
Victim Attacked During Routine Morning Walk
The victim told officers that he was enjoying a morning walk when he was approached by two men, described as one Hispanic male and one White male. One of the suspects allegedly brandished a handgun and demanded money.
When the man replied that he had none, he was forced to the ground and kicked in the head multiple times. As he attempted to flee, the suspect chased him and struck him in the head with the gun, causing a head injury that required treatment at the scene by Ventura Fire Department personnel.
Suspects Flee With Victim’s Car Keys
The assailants then took the victim’s car keys and fled in a light-colored sedan. Police confirmed that the suspects did not steal the vehicle itself.
During the investigation, officers learned that a second resident had been attacked in a similar fashion around the same time. Both victims provided matching descriptions of the suspects, and video footage captured a light-colored sedan in the area before and after the incidents.
Police Appeal to the Community
“These were disturbing and unprovoked attacks on community members who were simply out in their neighborhood,” said Sgt. Fabian Gutierrez. “No one deserves to be confronted with this kind of violence. Our detectives have been working around the clock to find those responsible, and we’re asking anyone who saw something, no matter how small, to reach out and offer help.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Detective Erik Utermohlen at 805-339-4478.
Community Safety Reminder
Police remind residents to stay vigilant during early morning or evening walks and to report any suspicious behavior immediately. These attacks serve as a stark reminder of the importance of community awareness and cooperation with law enforcement.
