Oakfield, WI – A 69-year-old Fond du Lac man was seriously injured Monday afternoon after a single-snowmobile crash on a local trail in the township of Oakfield, authorities said. Emergency crews responded swiftly to the scene to provide medical assistance.
Snowmobile Crash on Local Trail
Deputies were called around 12:45 p.m. after the snowmobile operator reported crashing on a trail. First responders used a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) to reach the injured man and transport him back to the roadway, where additional medical assistance was provided.
Due to the severity of his injuries, Flight for Life was called to airlift the man to a nearby hospital. Officials said he sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
How the Accident Occurred
Investigators said the man was traveling along the trail when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and collided with a tree, causing him to be thrown approximately 30 feet from the snowmobile. Authorities noted that he was wearing a helmet and chest protector at the time of the crash, which likely helped reduce the severity of his injuries.
Officials believe that speed may have been a contributing factor in the accident. The incident remains under investigation as authorities continue to gather details about the crash.
