Mineral Point, Wisconsin – A 58-year-old Mineral Point man tragically died Thursday night after his vehicle caught fire following a crash into a ditch, authorities confirmed.
Crash and Vehicle Fire
According to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were dispatched just before 9 p.m. Thursday to the 800 block of Oak Street for a report of a motor vehicle fire. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found a sedan fully engulfed in flames and smoke, with the driver trapped inside.
The driver was identified as Timothy Walrack, 58, of Mineral Point. Officials say Walrack lost control of his vehicle while turning into a private driveway, causing the car to slide into a ditch slowly, sustaining minor damage in the process.
Fatal Outcome
While the crash itself caused limited damage, Walrack was unable to drive out of the ditch as the vehicle caught fire, leaving him trapped inside. Emergency responders were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Law Enforcement Statement
The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable dangers of vehicle accidents, even at low speeds or minor crashes. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire and the crash to determine if any additional factors contributed to the fatal outcome.
