Indianapolis, INMultiple people were injured Monday morning following a police chase in Beech Grove that ended in a multi-vehicle crash on the near southeast side of Indianapolis, authorities reported.

Police Chase Begins

The incident began around 10 a.m. on September 22 when a Beech Grove Police Department officer attempted to pull over a stolen Chevrolet sedan in the 3000 block of South Keystone Avenue near East Troy Avenue.

According to a Beech Grove PD spokesperson, the vehicle initially appeared to comply but then fled from the officer, prompting a brief police pursuit that was called off after a few blocks for safety reasons.

Crash Details

The stolen vehicle continued northbound on Keystone Avenue and collided with another car at the intersection of Keystone Avenue and East Raymond Street. The crash involved three additional vehicles:

  • Two of the vehicles sustained minor damage.
  • The third vehicle was towed, primarily because its occupants were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the main vehicle struck by the stolen car was temporarily knocked unconscious but later regained consciousness and was alert and talking while being transported. WTHR reported that his car suffered significant damage in the collision.

Suspect Arrested

Following the crash, the 35-year-old driver of the stolen vehicle fled on foot into a nearby gas station, where he hid in a back room. Beech Grove PD officers located and arrested him without further incident. Authorities confirmed the suspect was not injured during the crash or his capture.

Beech Grove Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the chase and crash. Officials have not released additional details regarding potential charges or the condition of other victims.
