34-year-old Carmel Nurse Faces Charges for Overprescribing and Fraudulent Prescriptions

Carmel, IN – Katherine N. Curtis, 34, a licensed nurse practitioner in Carmel, has been arrested for allegedly committing prescription fraud, authorities confirmed. Curtis faces preliminary charges of unlawful dispensation of a controlled substance and dealing in a controlled substance by a practitioner following an eight-month investigation.

Investigation and Allegations

The investigation began in February after several pharmacies across Indiana reported suspicious activity. Curtis, who operated the business Reclaim Wellness, allegedly overprescribed medications and wrote fraudulent prescriptions to numerous patients. Her clinic was raided and closed this week.

IMPD Lt. Justin Gough said: “It got out of control. It’s not only against the law, it’s also a violation of the public’s trust.”

Investigators from IMPD’s drug task force, the DEA, and Carmel Police Department claim Curtis also used other identities to write prescriptions when pharmacies flagged her activity. According to a pharmacy technician: “She would fill at a certain Kroger or CVS and then they would get it figured out and they would shut her down, and she would move to the next one. So she would kind of store hop.”

Additional Concerns

Court records indicate Curtis allegedly provided unnecessary medication to her own child during a custody dispute. She is accused of prescribing drugs including ketamine and Adderall. More than a dozen individuals have reported being scammed by Curtis.

A former employee noted that Curtis’ license had been suspended, and documentation showed it was null and void, as per Fox59.

Legal Proceedings

Hamilton County prosecutors have filed for a 72-hour hold, and formal charges are expected to be filed next week. Curtis is scheduled for an initial court hearing soon. Authorities stress that prescription fraud endangers the public and will not be tolerated.

Deputy Prosecutor Josh Kocher said: “Prescription fraud undermines the whole system. People should not think they can get away with this behavior. We’re going to catch you.” IMPD Chief Chris Bailey added: “Prescription fraud undermines the trust placed in healthcare professionals and puts our community at serious risk. I’m proud of the diligent work by our IMPD task force officers, the DEA, the Carmel Police Department, and our other local partners.”

Business History

Curtis previously owned Mind & Body Healthcare LLC before running Reclaim Wellness, both located in Carmel, Indiana.
