23-year-old Man Arrested after Violent Assault Spree on Women and Teen in New York City

Bronx, New York – Jeremiah White, 23, the man accused of a violent assault spree in the Bronx, has been ordered held on $200,000 cash bail following a series of attacks on two women and a teenage girl earlier this week. White had previously been released on supervised release despite facing charges in similar incidents last month.

Violent Rampage Leaves Victims Injured

According to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, White allegedly began his rampage around 5:20 a.m. Wednesday, attacking 46-year-old nurse Virginia Alvarez at West 175th Street and University Avenue.

White reportedly sucker-punched Alvarez, knocking her to the ground. He then struck her repeatedly in the face and, after briefly walking away, returned wielding a metal pipe, hitting her head and causing her to fall to the concrete.

Alvarez suffered multiple fractures to her hands and face and required staples to the back of her head.

Approximately two hours later, White allegedly assaulted a 15-year-old girl in Crotona Park East while she was on her way to school.

He struck her skull with a metal pipe, causing profuse bleeding, a concussion, and the need for multiple stitches. The teenager was reportedly targeted with a taunting remark, “be careful,” before the attack.

White’s spree concluded around 10 a.m., when he allegedly punched a 54-year-old woman outside a Claremont apartment complex. Authorities captured White shortly thereafter.

Previous Arrests and Legal Issues

White had previously been arrested on October 7 for similar random assaults, including:

  • A September 12 attack on a teenage girl riding the 2 subway line near 174th Street Station
  • Assaulting another woman the same day

Despite these prior charges, Bronx Judge Deidra Moore released White during his October 8 arraignment, citing New York state’s bail laws that make misdemeanor assault charges non-bail eligible. Instead, he was placed on supervised release, as per The Post.

Charges Filed

At his Thursday arraignment, White was hit with multiple charges, including:

  • Attempted murder
  • First-degree assault
  • Second-degree assault
  • Criminal possession of a weapon

Bail was set at $200,000 cash, ensuring he remains in custody until his next court appearance.

Pattern of Attacks

Bronx Assistant District Attorney Vadeanand Nowrang described White’s behavior as a “common scheme”, targeting female strangers in public spaces with a metal object, creating fear among women in Bronx County.

Authorities say the attacks follow a consistent pattern of:

  • Selecting random female victims
  • Using a weapon to inflict serious injury
  • Leaving victims bleeding and traumatized

White’s next court date is scheduled for October 20 at 10 a.m.

Safety Reminder

Officials urge residents to remain vigilant in public spaces:

  • Avoid isolated areas, particularly early in the morning
  • Report suspicious behavior to local authorities immediately
  • Be aware of surroundings when walking in neighborhoods with past incidents
