Bakersfield, California – A tragic solo-vehicle crash early Thursday morning in Delano left two people dead and a third hospitalized, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Details of the Rollover Crash
The crash occurred at approximately 12:28 a.m. on Woollomes Avenue, west of Wallace Road, when a 2017 black Acura ILX 4-door traveling eastbound veered off the road at a high rate of speed, CHP said.
The vehicle left the north edge of Woollomes Avenue and struck several large metal poles and a wooden power pole on the north dirt shoulder, causing major damage to the Acura.
The driver, a 21-year-old man, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, sustaining fatal injuries at the scene.
The right front passenger, 19-year-old Andru Luque Felix of Delano, also died from severe injuries at the scene. A 19-year-old female passenger in the back seat suffered injuries and was transported to Kern Medical for treatment.
Road Closure and Investigation
The crash forced the closure of eastbound and westbound lanes of Woollomes Avenue for approximately three hours to allow for investigation and cleanup operations, as reported.
CHP officials stated that it is currently unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause.
