18-year-old Killed after SUV Overturns in Motorcycle Collision in Wichita

Wichita, KS – An 18-year-old man was killed early Sunday morning after being trapped under his SUV in a crash involving a motorcycle, authorities reported.

Fatal Collision at Central and Hydraulic

The Wichita Police Department (WPD) responded to the accident near the intersection of Central and Hydraulic. When officers arrived, they found the SUV driver trapped underneath the overturned vehicle.

Fire crews extricated the teen, who was then transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at 2:47 a.m., WPD confirmed.

Crash Details

Investigators said the SUV was traveling west on Central through a green light when a motorcyclist, heading north on Hydraulic, ran a red light and struck the SUV’s left rear quarter panel.

The impact caused the SUV to lose control and overturn, trapping the driver. The motorcyclist was transported to a hospital for treatment and detained.

Two SUV passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were also hospitalized. Early evidence suggests alcohol may have been a factor in the crash as per KWCH.

Next Steps

Once testing and evidence collection are completed, the case will be forwarded to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charges.

Safety Tips for Drivers

  • Always obey traffic signals; running a red light can have deadly consequences.
  • Avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Wear seatbelts at all times to reduce injury in rollovers and collisions.
  • Motorcyclists should exercise caution at intersections and stay visible to other drivers.

Following these precautions can help prevent tragic accidents like this one.
